Hello everyone! Today’s tip is all about creating a pattern for a dress with Japanese sleeves, a style known for its comfort and elegance.
To make the pattern, I used a base without bust darts. For the neckline, I lowered it by 3 cm and brought the shoulder in by 4.5 cm. Make sure this measurement, combined with the back neckline, fits over your head. The sleeve is 23 cm long, and I lowered the armhole by 4 cm, drawing a rounded shape as shown in the image below. I used the waist dart as ease, widened the hip by 5 cm, and raised the hem by 1 cm for a better fit. At the waist, you can add at least 1 cm of ease.
In my base, I need a 1 cm adjustment at the neckline since it always leaves extra space, and it’s necessary to correct it.
I eliminated the extra fabric with a camouflaged dart, and the front pattern is ready.
For the back pattern, I made the same adjustments as the front. You might need to adjust the back neckline too, but it’s a good idea to test it on the body since every body is different.
For the belt, in size P, I cut 1.50 m long and 4 cm wide. For size M, I cut 1.65 m; for size G, 1.75 m; and for size GG, 1.85 m.
I hope this tip helps, and see you in the next post!
