Hello everyone, how are you? Today’s tip is a super simple and quick pattern for a beautiful A-line skirt with an elastic waistband at the back.
To create the pattern, I used a basic straight skirt pattern and added a 1.5 cm extension for the button placket. Below the dart, I drew a line down to the hem. I then opened this line to create the A-line effect. I measured how much the opening added and increased half of that measurement at the side seam of the hem. Next, I connected the hip to this new measurement and adjusted it by raising the line by 1 cm to prevent any sharp corners.
I also adjusted the waistband of the skirt.
I designed the waistband at a width of 4 cm. Then, I separated the waistband from the skirt by cutting along the pattern, and with that, the front pattern was ready.
For the back pattern, I used the same front pattern. Since the modification is in the waist and hip, there’s no need to create a new pattern. Simply remove the button placket from the back pattern. Then, trace the waistline to match the hip measurement and connect it to the hem.
Trace the waistband using the same 4 cm measurement as the front and then separate it by cutting along the pattern. Now, the patterns are ready, and you just need to add the seam allowance.
I hope this tip was helpful! See you in the next post.
